So, I was at the auditions for Hairspray this past weekend, sitting with 30 people who were talking about how they rehearsed their songs with their voice coaches and how they took dance lessons, etc. These people are hardcore! The Augusta Players' production of Hairspray was something I had really wanted to be a part of, but it wasn't the end of the world if I wasn't. Sure, no one likes to be rejected and that night, i SURE didn't like it; but I'll get over it. There will always be other plays and it's definitely good to gain experience! I practiced my song for like two days. I printed out my sheet music like the day of auditions. Clearly, I was unprepared. Others like Maggie and Kara had been preparing their song for weeks with their voice coaches. geez.
All in all though, I gave the best audition I could and I think I sounded pretty awesome...but then again, so do those people on American Idol. The ones who just don't understand how the judges can say "no" when the answer is clear to you or I. Maybe I'm like them; who knows. All I know is that singing and performing is something I enjoy doing, whether I have real talent in it or not, because it can bring you close(r) to some really great people.
Augusta Players, you haven't seen the last of me. Promise :)
